Back in February I had purchased a small bundle of carte de visite (CDV) from a second hand shop in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, two of which were taken by female owned photo studios. Hallgren was the first of the collection I had explored and today I am sharing what I found about the second photographer, Josefina Franke. Like the Hallgren post, I wanted to share a little insight into the way I work and research so buckle up because this is a bit of a long post!

My haul consisted of five carte de visite and a Christmas issue of the magazine Femina. Upon scanning, I realised two of the cards I had bought were made by two different women owned photography studios! As it is Women’s History Month, what better way to end it with a dive into the histories of these photographers! When I started researching however, I ended up finding more information than anticipated so have decided to split this up into two parts! So I eventually can make this more of a habit and eventually start a newsletter but we shall see how I get on! So I am currently exhibiting and will be exhibiting images from my series ‘Please?’

In other words, the experience of photographs be that making them, viewing them or the sensory experience. And this particular Series has been reflective of this. Not just the obvious sense of smell being aroused when composing the images, but before this. The cool air and rain on my skin when I hop outside to gather the thyme. The sounds of the scissors snipping the stalks of each plant. This sound unlocked a great and immediate sense of nostalgia and comfort in me. I wonder why.
Read MoreI’m a little late to my own party with this news. However it is in conjunction with a new collection that launched on my shop this week so would that count as being fashionably late? Well I am very pleased to announce for those who don’t know, that I have now opened at Etsy store!
Read MoreAs an artist, rejection is a experience we all must get used to. Be that entering exhibitions, applying for jobs, submitting written work and research, whatever. Sometimes our work isn’t the right fit, maybe not the right time, maybe there is stronger work from other applicants or maybe it just isn’t to everyone’s taste
